Proud to Present: a brand full of romance and adventure for Rachel Movitz Photography
Rachel Movitz is an in-demand wedding photographer based in Oxford. With a rich and extensive background in documentary photography, she's built a busy and successful career in photographing weddings. Rachel is really well known for photographing weddings in Oxford, but as an avid adventurer she dreams of photographing more destination weddings in gorgeous, far-flung locations. She approached Ditto for a fresh new look that'd reposition her within the market and set her on a fresh new path!
Rachel takes gorgeous, authentic photographs of unique and unusual weddings. Her relaxed, easy going nature and unobtrusive documentary style makes her a pleasure to have around, and makes for an entirely chilled out experience. Rebelling against the stuffy formalities of traditional weddings, her couples are planning offbeat weddings – perhaps outdoors on a secluded beach or leafy treehouse, perhaps in a cool urban location or in some exotic, far flung location. The experience of working with her goes beyond what one might expect of a ‘normal’ wedding photographer; in hiring you, her clients gain a storyteller, a travel companion and seasoned adventurer to capture the spirit of their wedding in an artful and utterly breath-taking style.
To reposition the Rachel Movitz brand, we needed to create a new identity that celebrates Rachel's strengths, that plays to her unique approach and authentically reflects her distinctive creative style. We needed a brand packed with spirit and curiosity; one which possesses plenty of warmth and character yet feels uplifting and has a sense of artisanal luxury. It needed to be robust and bohemian; beautiful and offbeat.
The season personality
The seasons which best representthe Rachel Movitz brand are Autumn and Summer. Autumn personalities love to learn, explore and travel. They’ll be the ones who seek out quirky, lesser known corners of the world and will immerse themselves in culture once they’re there, taking in as much as they can. They are warm, friendly and sociable people whose relaxed approach make them easy to get along with. Summer personalities meanwhile, are laid back, thoughtful and intuitive. They are logical, observant and highly perceptive – they’re sensitive to the needs of those around them and adapt easily to accommodate their companions. Summer personalities love grace, balance and elegance.
The combination of these two season personalities is a passionate, spirited brand which exudes a sense of laid back, artisanal luxe. The style is artfully undone and intentionally rustic. It’s stylishly undone, aspirational, warm and curious.
Inspired by Rachel's time in India, we wanted to bring an ethnic influence to the brand to celebrate travel and adventure. The overall mood of the brand is earthy and warm yet also polished. Shapes are balanced, elegant and proportional. Graceful hand lettering is beautiful and feminine but also approachable, lending personality and energy to the overall feel. The ethnic influence hasn’t been lost; we love the stunning mandalas that were created by hand by Dan which have formed the most beautiful pattern.
On to the colour palette. Originally I had bright colours in mind for Rachel's brand, but when we played that out they simply didn’t work. Too loud, too harsh, too jarring. We needed a palette which reinforced the sense of laid back, undone luxe – and I’m so pleased with what we’ve created.
A graphite grey provides a solid base colour; a practical shade for copy which is softer and more elegant than black. Cobalt blue is intelligent, trustworthy, balanced and strong. Gold is warm, wise, generous and rich. Blush is nurturing, tranquil and intimate. A gentle mist is reflective, calm and serene.
The new brand for Rachel Movitz is one which is packed with thoughtful touches and hand rendered elements (even the script in the primary logo was created by hand!), giving it a sense of warmth which so suits Rachel's style.
