Is it too early to start thinking about Christmas?

No! In fact, now is the perfect time to get festive and start thinking about Christmas promotions. Yes, it might be summer holiday season and yes, you might be melting in your office right now but if you want to make the most out of your Christmas sales, you need to start planning your marketing now.

The key is planning ahead, so start thinking about what you want to be selling or promoting in the run up to Christmas, and who your target audience is. Remember that this might not be the same as the rest of the year (I only shop for computer games when I want to buy them as Christmas presents and I know for fact that my other half only goes near a perfume counter at Christmas and Valentines Day), so make sure that your marketing is aimed at the right people. Think about producing a catalogue or brochure to make it as easy as possible for people who are unfamiliar with your product to buy (it can help boost sales by up to 40%). Review what you did last year and figure out what worked and what didn't, and think about what you can do to get your customers thinking about your product as early as possible to maximise sales.

If your product or service isn't in huge demand over the festive period, think outside the box to turn Christmas into a marketing opportunity.
