Proud to Present: A fun, colourful and quirky brand identity for Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes
Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes run popular music classes for children aging 4 – 11. Owned by the utterly brilliant Ali Edwards, the business has grown from strength to strength and has grown from running a few classes in Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells to operating across London, with classes in Balham, Battersea and Herne Hill among some of the London locations.
Ali is completely dedicated to teaching children to read, write and play music in a fun and inspiring environment. You only need to spend 5 minutes in Ali's company to feel her incredible energy, and it was this zest, quirkiness and vigour which Ali wanted to inject into her branding.
Ali approached Ditto to rebrand Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes as the existing home made branding was looking a little tired, and she wanted to celebrate the success and growth of the business by launching a new identity which truly reflects the fun, energy and funky vibe that makes Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes so popular!
The season personality
Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes season personality was mainly Spring, with Autumn subordinates. Spring personalities are energetic, inspirational and full of fun. They enthuse everyone around them with their infectious passion for what they do – they are highly expressive and very clarity of communication is important to them. They’re also youthful, forward thinking and very approachable. On the Autumn side, there’s an authenticity and warmth to the brand which we really wanted to communicate.
The Funky Monkey colour palette is fun, quirky and full of life! Bright, clear colours provide a youthful and approachable mood, whilst the muted olive and grey keep the palette feeling classy and not too brash. We’ve created a palette which is a little softer than the overtly primary coloured palettes that you often see for childrens’ businesses as this makes it more distinctive and feels higher end. This colour palette is perfect for girls and boys, and has the stretch in it to work just as well for older children as it will for the little ones.
The overall mood of the Funky Monkey Keyboard Classes branding is one of fun and playfulness! There’s plenty of quirky typography (balanced out with a san-serif for clarity); lots of colour in the imagery and heaps of fun in the patterns.
