Proud to Present: a romantic and playful brand identity for wedding photographer, Helen England
Where do I start with telling you about Helen England? Mine and Helen's paths first crossed over ten years ago. We'd just joined a print franchise and were getting our heads around their corporate-leaning sales model and tentatively putting new processes in place (sales calls remain to this day something I loathe and now fortunately don't have to do). Meanwhile, Helen was dipping her toes in the water of solopreneurship having just quit her day job to launch her own business. Getting her first set of business cards sorted was at the top of her to-do list, and the enquiry that came through to us via our newly-acquired print franchise was my very first of its kind to respond to. Looking back, it makes me giggle to think of that first conversation between me and Helen, both of us trying our hardest to appear oh-so-professional whilst silently winging it and praying that the other wouldn't notice. Ahhh, happy times...
Anyway, many years have passed since then. Helen's business has flourished and gone from strength to strength whilst ours has completely evolved too. Over the years we've become good friends; Helen is such a bundle of energy that it's impossible not to love her. We've worked together lots over the years, and Helen even photographed mine and Dan's wedding in 2015. She's reached a really special time in her career and felt it was high time to celebrate her success with a fresh brand identity.
With Helen, life's all about light, love and having fun. There's nothing remotely serious or moody about her photography style; she adores natural light and soft shades with a touch of romance. In her own words, "I love beautiful light and people who love to laugh. I photograph people who are completely nuts about each other, and people having a brilliant time. It’s my job to capture the full story of your day: the big moments as well as all the not-so-big in-between moments that matter just as much".
Happy, fun and endlessly excited about pretty much everything, Helen's positivity and joy for shooting weddings radiates from her, and her genuine passion for her work never fails to come across. Her photos are not just about beautifully telling the story of her couples' wedding day, but about creating something that'll make them happy for years to come.
Colour psychology: The season personality
Expressive, fun-loving and uplifting with a sense of romance, the seasons that best represent Helen England are Spring and Summer. Spring represents her brand the best; Spring personalities are bright, bubbly and full of life. Utterly irrepressible, they love the lighter side of life and inspire everyone around them with their endless sense of energy. They are creative, fast paced and have a youthful approach to business. They love working with people where they can bounce ideas around; they’re hugely sociable and are big on fun.
While Spring captures the wildly expressive side of Helen's brand, Summer brings a softer influence. Summer personalities are elegant, stylish and romantic. With a strongly romantic and intuitive side, they’re committed to creativity, quality and style. They are nurturing, intuitive and empathetic and look after those around them beautifully.
This brand is light, playful and fun. With soft colours and clean shapes, it has a fresh and romantic feel that echoes Helen's approach to her work. We've introduced a lively script to bring energy to the party, which contrasts perfectly against the elegant serif in her typography for a mood that feels fun without being frivolous, careful not to undermine Helen's considerable experience and creative eye.
The brand was bought to life in Helen's brand new website which beautifully showcases her very best work and sets the tone for the experience that lies ahead for those considering booking her. With her partner, Dave, now assisting as a talented second shooter, I can't wait to see what Helen does next...
