Lovely Emily at Basilica reached out to Ditto for a new name and brand identity that'd help her take her business to the next level. Established in 2014 armed with a few paintbrushes and a can-do attitude, she has successfully grown her business to where it is today: a busy and brilliant team of kick-ass, talented partners, all passionate about delivering an exceptional service.

From humble days of providing high quality painting and decorating services, they’re now managing extensive renovation and build projects, covering every stage from design to delivery with characteristic style and flair. Whatever the size of the project, they provide a truly exceptional service with impeccable work standards. Their thorough approach, attention to detail and highly skilled team come together to ensure every project runs as flawlessly as possible.

Basilica occupy a niche in the market; they're miles more design savvy and deliver their service with far more flourish than you’d expect from your average builder, yet far more practical than an interior designer. 

As they’ve evolved from small decorating jobs to managing the design and delivery of whole house renovations, their cute-but-naïve name of Homes by Twiggy no longer fits the bill.  ‘Basilica’ represents the next phase of their business beautifully; a basilica is a spiritual, welcoming place where peace and serenity can be found. This name celebrates the homes that the team enhance, the ways in which they bring people home and gives a nod to Emily’s faith. This is a more refined, stylish and aspirational name which sets them on an exciting path for the future!

The season personality

The two seasons which best represent Basilica are Autumn and Summer. Autumn personalities are warm, sociable and life loving characters. They’re grafters; they’ll work their socks off to make sure they never let you down, and they take huge pride in what they do.  They love to be different and have a magpie-like fascination with anything a bit quirky. They’re honest, earthy characters who have an irrepressible energy and zest for life that inspires those around them. Whatever they turn their hand to, they take great pride in their work and their life-long obsession with learning means they’ll never settle; they’re always on the hunt for the latest trend.

Summer personalities meanwhile are more reserved, thoughtful and graceful. They are refined, intuitive and stylish with an aspirational, luxury edge. Quality is high on the agenda for Summer personalities; they are structured and measured in their approach and won’t accept anything less than the very best that they can do. Summer personalities love simplicity, balance and understated sophistication.

The brand

Flowing hand lettered scripts bring warmth and approachability while hand rendered illustrations add a sense of individuality. Typography is substantial and confident – upper case serifs feel traditional and established, with plenty of space around the letters for exclusivity. By contrast, modern san serifs feel contemporary and clear. 

This is a brand of contrast – bright and airy, there’s a depth and grittiness introduced by moody watercolour inspired texture. We also love the contrast of highly structured serifs with naturally unfinished shapes and texture; this combination keeps everything interesting and invites you to look twice, helping to create a memorable identity.

Organic textures bring a rustic earthiness – from natural wood to terracotta, stone and the beautiful striations of the granite to provide depth.  All of this adds a sense of warmth and homeliness, adding a cosy yet refined feel.
