Proud to Present: an heirloom-worthy brand for documentary family photographer, Jennifer Adams

Jennifer Adams is a brilliantly talented, award winning family documentary photographer. Following four years photographing weddings, she’s adept at catching fleeting moments and working with whatever light and space she’s presented with, creating gorgeous photos that seep emotion and are beautifully composed. Having spent time closely studying art, creating beautifully composed images under pressure is her super power.

Jennifer’s work is all about capturing the beauty in the everyday, immortalising the magic of family life through stunning photography. She’s one of a new breed of family photographers who offer Day in the Life photography, photographing life as it happens with absolutely no direction. A million miles from a family photo shoot in the sterile surroundings of a photographic studio or a posed shoot in the local park, Jennifers’ style is far more relaxed and emotive. Nothing is posed; nothing is set up or directed- this is real, honest documentary of the tiny moments that make up the fabric of the every day. It’s the raw, unedited version – it captures the grubby faces, the untidy house and the glory of life as it is right now.

This is photography for those who want to crystalise the beauty of their lives as they are right now. It’s for people who gaze upon the small faces of their children and want time to stop; to remember exactly how things are today. The way they move, the way they smile – that little gesture; the way they tighten their hold on their favourite teddy when they’re anxious. They know that these are the moments they’ll treasure; the ones which will evoke fond nostalgia when their children are a bit bigger. Because little ones grow up too soon, and these are the moments that matter.

The photographs Jennifer takes are heirlooms; to be enjoyed today and passed down to the generations within the photographs too. How precious it will be for the children she photographs to discover what their childhood home looked like before they were at an age to remember it, and to be able to see aspects of themselves as a child in their own children, when they come.

Colour psychology season personality

The seasons which best represent your brand are Autumn and Summer. Autumn personalities are warm, welcoming and friendly. Family is important to the Autumnal personality and they place huge emphasis on the relationships with those around them. They’re sentimental souls, drawn towards anything nostalgic – they love things with history and a story behind it. Whatever they do, they do well, with a passion and energy that inspires others. Substance is important to them, as is integrity – image must always reflect reality. They’re relaxed, informal and homely.

Summer personalities are intuitive, observant and creative. Quiet and gentle, they have a strong nurturing instinct which can sustain and balance. They’re artistically gifted and have an eye for quality, rejecting anything cheap and shoddy in favour of things that are designed to last. They’re refined, graceful and elegant – they like things done properly but are not at all uptight and happy to go with the flow.

The brand

This brand is just sumptuous – rich, colours, elegant shapes and a warmth that feels undeniably welcoming. We wanted to create something with a sense of strength and nostalgia; a timelessness that’d echo the sentimentality of Jennifer’s work and rise above the trends, creating an identity that’d last. It was also important to us that the mood was subtle rather than flashy – all of the elements of the brand are understated and refined.

Typography includes beautiful serifs, chosen for their elegance, and simple san serifs with a heritage feel. We’ve also included a typewriter font for the vintage charm it provides – anything slightly broken adds character and an approachability that’s incredibly welcoming.

As we always do when working on brands for fellow creatives, we’ve carefully considered Jennifer’s style and woven her work within the brand to ensure that what we create supports Jennifer’s own creative style. We noticed that Jennifer’s images were either intense black and white photographs or bold with colour. With that in mind, and thinking about the timelessness of her work, we wanted to create something that’d support her natural creative style rather than compete against it. A palette of rich neutrals is the perfect foil for her style – it frames her monotone images beautifully, and doesn’t fight against colour images either. We love the fact that where colour appears within the designs on the board, it’s used in a very strong and artistic way – big blocks of colour feel so much more confident than lots of little pops.

I really adore this brand; it appeals to my personal style in a big way and I just love how refined it feels. I can’t wait to see it in action!
