A nature-inspired brand identity for Acre, designers of handmade furniture

I’m so pleased to share with you the rebrand for Acre, a Kent based furniture designer and maker that specialises in beautifully designed, hand crafted furniture formed from sustainably sourced British timber. Founded by Ben Thompson-Heilbron, Acre needed a new brand identity to take the business forward into its new chapter and attract the discerning clientele who their pieces are created for.

One of the things I really love about Acre is their commitment to sustainability and traceability. With sustainability at the heart of every part of the process, an ongoing conversation with nature guides every decision. Equilibrium between the wildness of nature and the perfect finish of our pieces is found in the unspoken agreement to honour the beauty of the material. Working exclusively with hand selected British timber, each piece has a unique narrative; a story of the woodland, and of the hours of patient labour as the timber is carefully formed into something new.

It was only right, then, that the visual identity for Acre took inspiration from the quiet, ever-present beauty of the natural world, uniting the essence of nature with Acre’s signature aesthetic: clean lines, striking silhouettes and a finish which shows off the beauty of the grain. Perfectly balanced and beautifully proportioned, Acre’s style is at once contemporary and timeless – and always designed to endure.

I adore the Acre brand identity. Minimal styling, generous use of space and warm, earthy colours ensure the mood is considered, setting the expectation for a brand of quality and provenance. Typographic influences span letterforms which are both classic and contemporary; timeless combinations feature modest sans serifs and nuanced serifs, providing visual interest.

This new brand identity sets the standard for a business to be really proud of, and we can’t wait to see Ben and his team take things forward.
